Beyond Spectacle

Residency

April 3-7, 2017 at The Gold Saucer Studio as part of Spectacle of Fascism Conference.

The construction of situations begins beyond the ruins of the modern spectacle. [] The situation is thus designed to be lived by its constructors. The role played by a passive or merely bit-part playing “public” must constantly diminish, while that played by those who cannot be called actors, but rather, in a new sense of the term, “livers,” must steadily increase.

Guy Debord, Report on the Construction of Situations and on the International Situationist Tendency’s Conditions of Organization and Action, June 1957

Description

Emiliano Sepulveda drinking tea at Parvin Peivandi’s performance at Trump Tower.

Opening prior to the Spectacle of Fascism Conference and continuing throughout, the residency will operate as a workshop for critical dialogue and experimentation. During the residency, the artists will develop their theoretical and artistic projects, engage in recorded conversations and activate the space of the conference in different ways.

The residency space will be open and casual attendants are invited to participate in proposed situations, consult the library, or simply meet the artist in residence. This open residency seeks to engage the legacy of the Situationist International and create a cooperative space for the critical analysis of society.
